Compression fittings are used in plumbing and electrical conduit systems to join two tubes or thin-walled pipes together. In instances where two pipes made of dissimilar materials are to be joined (most commonly PVC and copper), the fittings will also be made of one or more compatible materials appropriate for the connection. How to Unclog a Drain
The first thing to try is a liquid drain product that is compatible with your home plumbing system. Some drain cleaners can not be used with PVC pipe, so make sure you read the label carefully. Never unscrew a trap with chemicals present and never mix different types of chemicals. Many drain clog removing chemicals are not compatible with each other.
If you have lost a valuable item such as a contact lens or ring, removing the trap, known as a “P” OR “S” trap, will be a perfect way to retrieve the lost item.
Step 1. Place a basin or bucket to catch water from the trap. If chemicals are present use a chemical resistant bucket and wear chemical resistant gloves. Also shield eyes.
Step 2. Loosen the two end nuts of the couplings. Some can be loosened by hand, but a pipe wrench may be needed. The trap will come free and you can get the lost item, or remove the plug.
Step 3. Check the washers for any damage when putting the trap back on. Replacing the damaged washers now may save you a leak later on.

Graham Washington is a very quaint little town nestled in the foothills of Mount Rainier. We were called in to find a plumbing leak in a concrete slab home in Sumner Washington. Finding the problem under the slab-foundation is a challenge. We used a camera system and found the problem quickly and presented a plan to fix the problem as affordable as possible. The Sumner home owner was elated with the plumbing repair estimate and gave us the ok to do the work. Once the job was completed she made us some chocolate chip cookies to say thank you. I arrived at the customers home in Dupont on time as usual and asked to see the drain that was clogged. The home owner took me to the bathroom and told me the tub drain was clogged. I could see by the 3 inches of standing water that it was. I told the home owner that I would be about an hour to clean the drain and make sure there were no other related drain problems before I was done. I used the small powered snake and found that I cleared the drain within a matter of a couple of feed in. That can happen, the trap could have been clogged, but I decided to run the snake as far as I could from the tub drain to make sure it was as clear as possible. At Budget Plumbing & Drain we always do our best to provide the most complete solution for our customers.
Once I finished optimizing the service call by clearing more than I needed, I reported to the customer that they were back in business with their bathtub drain. I also added that I went farther into the tub drain line to make sure they would not have any problems in the near future. I also mentioned that they may want to have someone clean the trap if it gets clogged again. They told me for what we charge they would just have me come back and make sure.
